Every year, more than 3,000 Australian families experience the devastating loss of a pregnancy, baby or child.
For many, there are no clear answers — only heartbreak and unanswered questions.
But cutting-edge breakthroughs are helping change this, with world-class scientists like Melanie working to identify markers that could one day help predict a baby’s risk of SIDS or SUDC.
The long term goal is clear: earlier detection, better prevention and ultimately, little lives saved.
You have the power to accelerate the next generation of research needed to save babies lives.

Bereaved mother and researcher Melanie Andrew-Manning and her team of world-class scientists have uncovered new evidence that may help explain why babies sleeping on their tummy face a higher risk of SIDS and SUDC.
In a recently completed research paper, Melanie and her team found that tummy sleeping can increase bacteria in the nasal cavity.
This discovery provides an important clue in understanding the biological processes that may contribute to SIDS and SUDC, something that has remained largely unknown for decades.
The long-term goal is clear: earlier detection, better prevention, and ultimately, little lives saved.
Researchers are now moving into the next phase, using advanced molecular techniques to identify specific markers that could one day help predict a baby’s risk.

Red Nose’s research panel regularly interprets results of research across the globe to identify and recommend any potential changes to guidelines for healthcare professionals, parents and caregivers.
That’s how our evidence-based Safe Sleep guidelines have helped reduce SIDS by over 80% since our Back To Sleep campaign started in 1989.
But research takes time and the babies and children of today can’t wait another 40 years for answers.
This lifesaving cycle of research only keeps turning because of you – and the more funds we raise today, the faster we can find the answers to save little lives.

Mylee was cheeky and always kept us on our toes. She loved playing Mummy to her dolls and more than anything she loved her big brother Chase.
We will never heal from not having Mylee with us.
But I know that every new piece of research helps us create a safer future for other families.
Please give as much as you can today to accelerate the next generation of research needed to save little lives.
