Every year during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Month, families across Australia gather to remember the babies and children we’ve loved and lost — by taking the “steps” they never got to take. Everyone is welcome: bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, friends, and anyone who wants to stand alongside a grieving family.
This is a space to reflect, to honour, and to connect with others who understand — and to share in the comfort of community.

What the day involves
Each Walk to Remember is a relaxed, family-friendly gathering. While every location is a little different, most walks include:
A remembrance service
A gentle service with readings and reflections from local bereaved families, and an opportunity to publicly say the names of the little ones we’re remembering.
The pinwheel ceremony
A shared moment of reflection and remembrance, with pinwheels turning together in memory of our children.
The walk itself
A short, symbolic walk — often a loop through a park, along a shore, or around a garden — taking the footsteps our babies and children never had the chance to take.
Time to connect
Space afterwards to stay a while, share refreshments, and connect with other families who understand.
What to expect
Our Walks to Remember are about making connections while honouring the love and loss we all share. You might feel nervous about talking with others who have experienced the death of a baby or child — and that’s okay. Members of the Red Nose team and community will be there to help you feel comfortable and welcome.
You can expect to see families of every shape, living siblings, and children joining in. Alongside quiet moments of reflection, you’ll often find joyful touches — bubbles, music, face painting — because remembering our children is also about celebrating the love they brought into our lives.
You’re warmly invited to bring a special memento of your little one to place on the remembrance table during the service.
Tickets and registration
Most walks are ticketed to help us welcome as many families as possible, with tickets starting from $10 and including a pinwheel. Free and sponsored registrations are available for anyone experiencing financial difficulty; select the sponsored option when you register.
