Australian actress, Logie nominee, award-winning broadcaster and television presenter Christie Hayes has joined Red Nose as a bereavement ambassador, building on her advocacy during Red Nose Day in August, when she spoke openly about miscarriage and raised funds for the organisation. Christie has more than 25 years of professional experience across television, film, theatre and media.
During Red Nose Day, Christie spoke publicly about her miscarriages and the grief that so often goes unseen. Having personally experienced pregnancy loss, she has continued to use her public platform to advocate for issues affecting women and families and for better support and understanding for families experiencing loss. Her honesty encouraged others to seek support, while her fundraising helped Red Nose continue providing free bereavement services to families affected by pregnancy loss and the death of a baby.
“I found working with Red Nose to help raise awareness of Red Nose Day to be a cathartic experience. I am grateful to assist them to raise awareness of pregnancy loss and better ways of supporting grieving families,” said Hayes.
Red Nose Australia CEO Amy Cooper said Christie’s willingness to speak openly has made a real difference.
“Families often feel stigmatised when they speak about their pregnancy losses and frequently their losses are minimised. We are so grateful for Christie’s willingness to use her platforms to share not only her own story, but stories of other families who have also experienced loss.”
Pregnancy loss affects many families across Australia, yet many people grieve in silence. Red Nose provides free, specialised support following pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or the death of a baby or child. Support is available to parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and health professionals.
