Red Nose Australia opens Sydney hub to bring face-to-face grief support to families

Red Nose Australia today officially opened the doors of its new Sydney Hub in Gladesville, marking a landmark moment in the organisation’s mission to save little lives and provide compassionate, face-to-face support to families navigating the devastating loss of a baby or child.

The opening ceremony, held at 10:00 am on 20 May 2026, was attended by government representatives, Federal Member for Bennelong, Jerome Laxale MP, major philanthropic partners, community members, Red Nose volunteers and families who have been supported by Red Nose’s life-changing programs.

Located in Gladesville, the Sydney Hub will serve as a dedicated physical space where grieving families can access in-person counselling, peer support, and connect with Red Nose’s nationally recognised programs, including Healing Through Community and Hospital to Home.

A Place to Heal, In Person

Nick Xerakias, Board Chair of Red Nose Australia, said the opening of the Sydney Hub reflects the organisation’s deep commitment to meeting families where they are and giving them a place to come together.

“Grief is deeply personal, and healing is not a journey anyone should walk alone. For so many families, there is simply no substitute for sitting with someone who understands, in a space that feels safe and warm. The Sydney Hub gives us the ability to offer exactly that – a physical home for support, connection, and community in one of Australia’s largest cities. This is a proud day for Red Nose, and most importantly, for every family who will walk through these doors and find they are not alone.”

Amy Cooper, Chief Executive Officer of Red Nose Australia, said the Hub represents years of listening to what bereaved families truly need.

“Time and again, the families we support have told us how much they value being able to speak to someone in person – to sit across from a counsellor, to share their story, to feel truly heard. Digital services are vital, and we will always provide them, but nothing replaces human presence when you are in the depths of grief. The Sydney Hub in Gladesville is our answer to that need. It is a place of hope, healing, and community, and we are so grateful to everyone who has helped make it a reality.”

Federal Government Support

Federal Member for Federal Member for Bennelong, Jerome Laxale MP, representing the Australian Government’s, reaffirmed the Government’s ongoing commitment to funding Red Nose’s critical programs.

“The Australian Government is proud to continue supporting Red Nose Australia’s Healing Through Community and Hospital to Home programs. These programs provide an extraordinary lifeline to families at their most vulnerable – from the bedside in hospital through to the long road of healing at home and in the community. The opening of this Sydney Hub in Gladesville demonstrates exactly the kind of grassroots, human-centred care that the Government is committed to backing. We congratulate Red Nose on this milestone and look forward to continuing our partnership for years to come.”

About our federally funded programs

Healing Through Community is a Red Nose program funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care. It was developed in partnership with bereaved families, community members and clinical staff to ensure that culturally safe, compassionate, and practical bereavement support is available to every family—no matter who they are or where they live.

Hospital to Home provides coordinated support from the moment a family experiences loss in a hospital setting, following them into their home environment to ensure no family faces the early days of grief without guidance and care. All team members working with families have lived experience and help with practical and emotional support.
