Young mothers often face unique challenges that can affect how they experience and process grief. These challenges may make it harder for them to access the support they need or to feel heard and understood during an already distressing time.
Young mothers may be navigating complex personal, social, or family dynamics while also managing the profound emotional impact of losing a baby. Authority figures—such as parents, health professionals or social services—may have greater involvement in their decision-making. This can lead to feelings of disempowerment, frustration, or isolation, especially if they feel their grief is not being taken seriously.
Red Nose Australia has been supporting grieving families for almost 50 years. This video was developed in consultation with young mothers who have experienced the death of a baby, pregnancy loss or stillbirth.
