The course will give parents the best evidence-based advice on how to best support their baby in regulating their temperature.

Red Nose Manager of Health and Advocacy Jane Wiggill says Red Nose receives a lot of questions regarding temperature from parents.

“Making sure a baby is not too hot or too cold, how to handle changes in temperature and understanding things like what sort of bedding or sleep bag to use can often be really overwhelming,” she says.

“There is a lot of information out there, and it can be difficult to know what’s best for your baby.”

Ms Wiggill says Red Nose’s free safe sleeping temperature course gives parents and carers evidence-based information in a clear and easy-to-understand format.

“All of Red Nose’s safe sleeping recommendations and advice are evidence-based and backed by a team of leading researchers, scientists, and health professionals including nurses and midwifes.

“Red Nose are recognised as the national authority on safe sleeping practices and our national education programs resulted in an over 85 percent reduction in babies dying suddenly and unexpectedly whilst asleep, with 10,000 babies’ lives saved as a result,” she said.

The course covers topics such as temperature control, uncovered sleeping, when to seek medical attention, removing coverings, blanket safety, unsafe sleep accessories.

Ms Wiggill urged all new parents, expectant parents and carers to undertake the course.

“By undertaking the free temperature eLearning course, parents and carers can be assured they are following best practise and be armed with evidence-based knowledge so you can make the best decision for your baby,” she said.

Ms Wiggill said the course was recommended for everyone who cared for a baby at home.

“Undertaking the course is beneficial for everyone, including relatives or friends who may care for your baby from time to time, or professional carers such as nannies and babysitters,” she said.
