Last week Red Nose held a Volunteer Thankyou Evening at its Perth office to coincide with National Volunteer Week.
We celebrated our volunteers and thank every one of them for donating their time and talents to helping us save little lives. Our volunteers perform a very wide range of tasks, but every action helps us fulfil our mission. Whether it’s envelope stuffing, stall holding, raffle ticket selling, research, data entry, stock take or tin rattling; all of these activities are vital to our success.
The evening featured entertainment from JMQ Music, a great spread of food and soft drink, a raffle full of fantastic prizes, gift bags stuffed with donated goodies and even a cake shaped like Leroy Lyrics!
We also took the opportunity to publically recognise our Volunteer Awards nominees Bec Dewar and Kaitlyn Barry. Bec was nominated for WA Youth Volunteer of the Year Award 2017. She has been volunteering since she was seven years old helping out her dad at their community radio station. Now in her early twenties, Bec volunteers at a variety of organisations and is the first person to put her hand up for anything Red Nose needs doing. Kaitlyn was a finalist for the People’s Choice Spirit of Volunteering Award 2017. She is a passionate and empathetic individual whose compassion makes her a dream volunteer for Red Nose and any organisation she is involved with.
National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. Thousands of events were held across the country to say thank you to the six million Australians who volunteer in their communities. With the theme ‘Give Happy, Live Happy’, we celebrate and explore the research that shows that volunteers live happier and healthier lives. Did you know that people that volunteer even sleep better than those who don’t volunteer? In fact, research shows that just a few hours of volunteering makes a difference in happiness and mood. As well as the health benefits, we also know that volunteering provides meaning, a sense of self-worth and a social role in our community.
Red Nose’s Thankyou Evening was made possible thanks to a grant from Volunteering WA.
A special thank you to all of our event sponsors who have donated prizes and vouchers to help us celebrate our volunteers. Thank you to:
