Do you have reccomedations for Childcare centre safe sleep practises. For example in a cot room, how much space should be inbetween 2 cots or matresses on the ground, how much space should be inbetween. Look forward to your reply, Meagan

Red Nose Education

There is no recommendation for specific distances between cots or mattresses when children in Childcare Services are sleeping.
It is important to take into account issues of safety, infection control & supervision of sleeping children when considering distance between cots & floor mattresses.
Educators should closely monitor sleeping and resting children and the sleep and rest environments. This involves checking/inspecting sleeping children at regular intervals, and ensuring they are always within sight and hearing distance of sleeping and resting children so that they can assess a child’s breathing and the colour of their skin.

There needs to be sufficient distance between each child to facilitate regular checking of children, infection control & the ability to access each child if emergency access/evacuation is necessary.
