Kat

Hello, Just wondering if this fisher price bassinet (Elsye Knowles Soothing View) is Sid safe for overnight sleeping? Was looking for a portable one to take if we travel. Thankyou smile

Red Nose Education

Red Nose recommends when buying a cot or portacot, ensure it meets Mandatory Australian Standards, regardless of brand.
However, as bassinets do not have Mandatory Australian Standards, it is important to have a look at information provided by Product Safety Australia (ACCC) & Red Nose.

Product Safety Australia - https://www.productsafety.gov.au/products/babies-kids/kids-furniture/bassinettes

Red Nose - https://rednose.org.au/article/bassinets

As you will see from the information linked above, there are a number of factors to look for. eg stability, height of sides, mattress (thickness & firmness)

Many people use a cot from birth, as often a bassinet is only suitable for a short period of time.
Once baby is rolling (can be a early as 3 months) baby needs to move from bassinet to a cot.

Red Nose does not endorse/promote any specific brand name products as “SIDS Safe”

Does this product have a rocking motion?
Product Safety Australia has information about “rocking cradles” which may be helpful in relation to the product you mention.
