Dennis

Hello, There is a Childcare Centre that regularly places infants ( 6 - 18 months) in an outdoor baby swing (2 in 1 snug and secure style swing) and leave them there for up to 2 hours ASLEEP. I have tried telling them it is not safe but I am unable to find any information to back up my concerns. Are you able to provide me with information I can use to stop them leaving sleeping babies in children's outdoor upright swing?

Red Nose Education

Red Nose recommends that the safest place for baby to sleep is in a cot that meets Mandatory Australian Standards, on a firm, clean, well fitting & flat (not elevated) mattress

Babies should sleep in a safe cot that meets mandatory Australian Standards. Babies should not be placed to sleep in a pram, bouncer, car seat, capsule or any other inclined device, which are not designed as dedicated sleep spaces. Importantly: the cot should be clear of pillows, bumpers, lambswool or thick loose bedding, even if the child is older than twelve months of age. These pose a significant suffocation risk.

The product you describe does not have safety standards for sleep, not does it provide a flat surface for sleep.

ACECQA is the Governing Body for all Child Care Services in Australia & recommends Red Nose for all advice/recommendations for Safe Sleeping.

They recommend that babies are slept in a cot with a firm, flat (not elevated or inclines) surface.
