Raelene

Hi, I have seen some discussion about the safety of the First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, and that Red Nose were looking into further research to assess it. Have you now completed that assessment and do you now have a definitive recommendation? I know you have advised that there is a risk of bed blankets covering baby. Is that still your assessment, and are there any other concerns?

Red Nose Education

Red Nose does not “research”  the safety of specific brand name products.
Product Safety Australia (ACCC) develops & monitors safety standards for products in Australia. They have recently completed the development of new standards for some types of products & changed the requirements for Manufacturers & Retailers.
This includes products that may be used for parent to sleep baby in eg those products with inclined surface & products that have soft base &/or sides
eg those products known as “pods, loungers &/or nests”
Also included is any product that restrains a baby in a particular position or in a curved or inclined position. (see references below)

Red Nose has produced a guideline for parents when choosing to co-sleep.
