Red Nose Education

I know that some SIDS & Kids State offices in the past would lend/rent monitors to parents for use in the home.
That program has not been available for many years.

I’m sorry that you have experienced the loss of your own son from SIDS.
I’m sure that loss would impact on your concern for you own grandchildren.

However, we also know a lot more now about infant death & how we can reduce the risk.
The research information that has been provided since the late 1980’s & the development of the Safe Sleeping recommendations has seen a reduction of 85% in the infant death rate.

While Red Nose now does not recommend the routine monitoring of all infants, there are some for whom monitoring may be helpful - this includes those who have experienced the previous death of a baby or a sibling to SIDS.
Red Nose has the following information:

In a very small number of cases, health professionals may recommend the use of home monitors, where their use can be helpful for babies and families.

Many parents, aware of the risk of sudden infant death and wanting to provide the best possible care for their child, may consider the purchase of a home monitoring system for their baby. This may also include parents who are expecting a baby following the sudden and unexpected death of a baby previously.
