Hi, is a moses basket a safe place for a newborn to sleep at night? (provided the mattress is firm, no soft bedding etc.)

There are no Mandatory Safety Standards for bassinets in Australia.
However Red Nose & Product Safety Australia do provide information about what a safer bassinet (like Moses basket) should look like. They discuss issues like the stability, the height of the sides & how/when to use a bassinet & when not to.
