Hi, My first baby is due this November. My Mum has kept the Moses basket she used for me to use for my little one but it requires a new liner. I haven't been able to find any safety recommendations on the use of a liner or even if it is to be used at all. Any safety recommendations at all would be fantastic.

Red Nose

Any recommendations in relation to a Moses Basket would relate to general guidelines for the use of a bassinet.

Red Nose supports the information that is provided by Product Safety Australia in relation to bassinets.

As there is no Australian Standard for bassinets, we are careful to keep up to date with reports of accidents associated with their use.

To date, the most frequent accidents associated with bassinet use are falls and suffocation hazards.

The information from Product Safety is related to the height (or depth) of the bassinet, its stability and mattress.

It is important that the mattress is firm, clean, well fitting and flat and no thicker than 75mm.

Ensure 300mm height from top of mattress to top of bassinet.

Removes any ribbons or similar that may pose a strangulation risk.

Do not use soft, padded lining in the bassinet which may pose a suffocation risk.

See Product Safety web site for full guidelines in relation to bassinets.
