Hi, My one month old has been rolling onto his side in his bassinet. He can’t role further but he seems to purposely get to his side instead of staying on his back. This means his arms have to be out and no longer swaddled right? But when his arms are out he constantly wakes himself every 30-60 minutes and it’s impossible for us to get any sleep. Do we have to persevere with arms out even though he’s so young?
Red Nose Education
Many babies do wriggle & squirm & can be quite active & will move or roll around the bassinet.
Some babies do not respond well to swaddling/wrapping.
Sometimes it is because they like hands free to touch their face or suck on fingers.
Still always place him on his back for sleep.
Does he always roll to the same side?
What have you been using as a swaddle?
Are you using a blanket? Is it tucked in firmly (not too tight)
Some babies like arms free & will wriggle & roll especially to side in an attempt to get arms free, so they can touch their face or suck on fingers.
You could try sleeping him in a sleeping bag (arms free) or you could use a muslin type wrap with arms out as for 3-6mth old baby.
Have you started tummy time when awake yet? How does he go?
It is a little early for him to be rolling intentionally, but not impossible.
