Hi, our day care centre advised us they follow red nose guidelines and do not want to wake up my 2 year old from her nap after requesting this. They have offered alternatives, but that means she sleeps too late in the day. Sleeping to long or too late in the day is effecting her night sleep (as we can see difference in her night sleep when she only has a shorter sleep at daycare, when she does). Could you please share the link to your website where it states that you should not wake a child up from their nap? Alternately, responds regarding this matter would be appreciated. Thank you

Red Nose Education

Red Nose does not have any specific information about waking sleeping children as it is not included in safe sleeping recommendations to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) & accidents.

All Child Care Services need to follow the Regulations as legislated by ACECQA & their own Sleep & Rest Policy.
Some Centres will place babies/toddlers for sleep & rest earlier in the day.
Hopefully some resolution can be found for this.
Maybe a discussion also with Local Child Health Nurses may also provide some further information in relation to toddler sleep & rest.
