Red Nose Education

Dear Joy,

Thank you for reaching out to Red Nose!

At this age, some babies start to explore ways to jump out of the cot so parents and care givers often provide different sleep environments such as a toddler bed or mattress on the floor. Stretcher beds whilst designed for outdoor camping and hiking,  provide a firm surface and are a viable option.
What you are trying to do in this sleep situation is decrease a falls risk.
Ensure the bed is not pushed up against a wall or furniture which increases the risk of becoming wedged or entrapped, and check to make sure that the distance from the bed to the floor is not too great in case the child rolls off the surface. This can be achieved by placing a mattress beside the bed on the floor, if needed. Further, please ensure it is placed away from other furniture, curtain cords or loose items in the room to prevent potential accidents
Please continue to regularly check and monitor all children in their sleep environments frequently and effectively to ensure their utmost safety.
Best wishes,
Jane
