Hi there, just wanting some clarification regarding sleep sacks and ages. Is it safe for an 8-12mo use a sleep sack? I can recall hearing somewhere it may not be as it stops a baby from being able to move their legs properly, but just wanted to check with Red Nose recommendations. My own baby moves around so much in her sleep at the moment that she wakes herself up and id love to use a sleep sack (arms free) if safe to help her feel more secure.

Red Nose Education

Red Nose has the following in relation to a Safe Sleeping bag…https://rednose.org.au/article/what-is-a-safe-sleeping-bag

“A safe baby sleeping bag is constructed in such a way that the baby cannot slip inside the bag and become completely covered.
The sleeping bag should be the correct size for the baby with a fitted neck, armholes (or sleeves) and no hood.”

Many parents find them helpful when baby is rolling & moving around the cot as it keeps baby warm & often eliminates the need for blankets at this stage.

Red Nose recommends to be careful if baby is wearing a sleeping bag once they have transferred to a bed.

Alerts!
If a child is wearing a baby sleeping bag whilst sleeping outside of a cot be careful!
A child wearing a baby sleeping bag and not confined to a cot is at a higher risk of falling and being injured.
The child must be actively super vised and the sleeping bag removed as soon as the child wakes.
