Hi. My son is 2 weeks away from turning one. I am wanting to put him in his own room to sleep (he is currently in our room in his cot). Do you have any tips or advice on how to do this safely? I am very anxious about leaving him in his own room but will have a monitor on him throughout the night so i can watch/hear him from my room.

Red Nose Education

Red Nose does recommend Room Sharing for the first 6-12mths, as you have been doing.
Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI)  does not occur after 12 months by definition & over 90% of the deaths occur in the first 5-6 months.

Red Nose has the following information about Room Sharing in infancy.
Parents are not expected to observe their baby constantly.
If your baby is sleeping in a separate room check baby regularly to ensure that the baby remains on the back and the head and face remain uncovered
(as baby grows beyond 5-6 months they will move around the cot and roll over; settle baby to sleep on their back but let them find the sleep position they feel most comfortable in.
A safe cot and safe sleep environment is still necessary for babies older than 5-6 months)
