Hi. We are expecting in September and have acquired two hand-me-down drop-side cots from friends. They are both 7 years old. How do we best find out if they comply with today's safety standards or not? Thanks Nick

Product Safety Australia (ACCC) are responsible for safety standards of products sold in Australia. They provide information on their web site in relation to these requirements. These include:

If the cot features a moving drop side, ensure that the locking mechanism is functional and operates safely with repeated use. https://www.productsafety.gov.au/products/babies-kids/kids-furniture/household-cots

They also provide information about about the specific requirements of the safety standards. This includes height of sides above mattress and space between slats and specific information about second hand cots. https://www.productsafety.gov.au/standards/household-cots
