How long is a cot safe for baby? Eventually all items wear out and I thought there may have been something that stated an exact amount of time. Thankyou

Red Nose Education

Red Nose recommends that you always use a cot that meets the Mandatory Australian Standards,(AS/NZS:2172)
I’m not aware of any specific time frame for cot safety, as it really depends on how or where it has been used.
Some people have suggested that cots should not be used if they are older than 10 years.
Always check for wear & tear or any sharp projections or loose/missing slats.
Red Nose has the following information.
Old or second-hand cots may be dangerous - if you don’t know that it meets current safety standards, is damaged or shows signs of wear and tear, it is safe to say do not place baby in that cot.

Are you enquiring about standard household cots or portcots?
This info is mainly related to standard household cots.
