Anna

I have followed the 6 tips for safe sleeping and am wondering why/what the evidence is that it is safer for the baby to be in the parents’ room than another room nearby? Thanks!

Red Nose Education

Room sharing is recommended by Red Nose for the first 6 months & is important for easy checking of baby when sleeping.
Have a look at the information on Red Nose web site here: https://rednose.org.au/article/room-sharing-with-baby

Some of the things mentioned in the article are the following:
“Parents are not expected to observe their baby constantly. If your baby is sleeping in a separate room check baby regularly to ensure that the baby remains on the back and the head and face remain uncovered”
“The protective effect of room sharing can be partially explained by increased adult supervision and observation of the baby.”

I’m sure reading the article (linked above) will provide evidence to support room sharing for the first 6 months.
