I’m currently pregnant and considering sleep arrangements for the baby once born. I understand newborn babies need a firm mattress with no toys etc in the area and that co sleeping is not recommended. I would like to be able to lie with my baby before it falls asleep and therefore in the first few months I was wondering if I could put them on a firm mattress on the floor in the room so that when feeding etc I can lie with them then return to my bed. Would this be safe?

Red Nose Education

Any information provided by Red Nose are related to the 6 safe sleeping recommendations.
eg - no toys for babies less than 7 mths in sleep environment are related to “keep head & face uncovered”

Red Nose recommends baby is placed for sleep in their own space (usually a bassinet or a cot) particularly in those firt 6 months
There is a high risk of parent falling asleep with baby when on the same sleep surface particularly in first 3 months.
Have a look at our co-sleeping information
