In the safe sleep section you have advised "bunny rugs and blankets" should not be used for swaddling as it may lead to overheating. Could you please advise what a bunny rug is, I have purchased "Cotton Jersey Wraps" for my newborn, and concerned that these may be inappropriate for use (they measure 120x120cm). Thank you, Jas

Red Nose Education

A bunny rug is a blanket, which may contribute to overheating.
This is why Red Nose recommends cotton or muslin as a wrap.

I find the advice really hard to follow. You guys keep reiterating the same advice again and again and again heat is dangerous - but what about the reality that it’s cold!! I just want to make sure this kid is safe and not too cold - just pretending that cold does not exist is entirely counter productive to giving advice.

I’m sorry you find our response hard to follow.
Overheating is a known risk factor for Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) - which is why much of information is related to too much clothing/bedding or having head/face covered as these can contribute to overheating.

Red Nose is aware of the risk to all of us, of exposure to cold - leading to hypothermia, & provides suggestions for bedding amount to prevent both.
Both hyperthermia (unusually high body temperature) and hypothermia (unusually low body temperature) are important to avoid during infancy.
