Is contact napping safe? My baby is 3 weeks old and doesn't take to a bassinet well. My husband and I take shifts in being awake and holding the baby. We do try the bassinet - he just never lasts long in between feeds & nappy changes. He was premature and rollsn onto his side often due to the newborn scrunch. We have Bonds Wondercool onesies and a sleep suit from Love to Dream that's TOG matches the room temperature, but unsure whether his side sleeping is safe (we place him on his back, but he rolls). Thanks!

Red Nose Education

Red Nose recommends to always place baby on their back for sleep.

Many babies do wriggle & squirm & can be quite active.
Its not necessarily about stopping this but ensuring the environment remains safe.
Sometimes it is because they like hands free to touch their face or suck on fingers.
Try baby with arms out of the swaddle suit you are using
Have you commenced tummy time when awake yet?

Are you using any bedding (sheets or blankets) in bassinet?
You could try moving your baby to a cot with more space.

Having one parent awake to hold baby when sleeping is not sustainable & there is a risk of that parent going to sleep with baby in an unsafe environment.

*** Also chat with your local Child Maternal Health Nurse about your settling techniques.
