Kirstyn

My 4wo is wriggling in her sleep and moves diagonal across the bassinet so her hand is against the mesh side. She is in a love to dream swaddle up with a blanket tucked tightly to her mid section. Is it too early to stop swaddling her and have her arms free? Is it safe to continue to move her back to the middle and keep her in the ltd in her bassinet? Thanks smile

Red Nose Education

Most babies do not roll to tummy intentionally before 3 months; however some babies do roll, especially to the side, at a very early age.
Some babies also wriggle in the bassinet & end up in unusual positions.
Some babies do not respond well to wrapping/swaddling & prefer to have their arms free.
Some babies like to touch their face or suck fingers when settling.
You could also try settling her without any swaddle, or use a muslin wrap with arms free.
Have a look at Principles of Safe Wrapping for example of modifying the wrap.

Always place baby on the back for sleep.
I wonder if she would be more settled in a cot, with the extra space.
Once baby is rolling to tummy, it is important to move to cot.

Red Nose does not recommend the use of sleep positioners.
Red Nose does not recommend positional products such as anti-roll devices and items that fasten a baby into a sleeping position.
Products that restrict the movement of a baby or a baby’s head should not be used.
