Anita

My 8 month old baby wakes in the night and only settles by going in to bed with my husband and I laying in a cushii (baby lounger) she has used this since she was born and has never rolled in it, she sleeps so well in it, always on her back and hardly moves. I was worried about her back/neck development sleeping in this each night for approx 4-6hrs - however upon my research all I can see is how unsafe it is for her to sleep in a lounger. However co sleeping with her on the mattress next to us is also considered unsafe. I’m just wondering what your advice would be for a baby who refuses to go back to sleep in her cot after she wakes up in the night (also refuses being pacified/rocked back to sleep) she literally only settles in the lounger. Is it better to have her in the lounger or on the mattress next to us?

Red Nose Education

Red Nose (& many other safety organizations) do not recommend pods, nests or loungers for baby’s sleep environment, particularly when unsupervised.
Even the company that makes this product states the following in FAQ’s:
“Do not
use in cot, cradle, bassinet, playpen, bed

Used as a comfortable place for a comfortable place to lounge, play,
feed or rest.
Loungers are designed for supervised rest only.”

Red Nose recognises that some families prefer to co-sleep their baby. We provide a “safer co-sleeping” information to assist parent to reduce the risks when sharing a sleep surface with your baby.

Another option is to discuss with your Maternal Child/Family Heath Nurse or other child support Services in your State about ways to settle babies  for sleep that works for everyone.
