My baby is 7 months old, 6 months corrected and just wondering when it is safe for him to sleep with a comforter? I read on the red nose website that it is safe from 7 months but wasn’t sure if this would be 7 months corrected or gestational. Thank you
Red Nose Education
Red Nose recommends to withhold the use of soft toys/comforters for babies less than 12 months of age.
However, Red Nose also recognises that some babies will benefit from the use of a comforter when experiencing separation anxiety once they have reached 7mths of age (corrected for prematurity) - this is after the critical development period of the first 6mths.

If choosing to use a soft toy &/or comforter for a baby over 7 months of age, ensure it meets requirements from Product Safety Australian (ACCC) for children under 36 months. eg ensure it is not large, not pillow-like, and does not have a blanket or long fabric or attachments (e.g. unstuffed ears, legs) that can cover baby’s head &/or face or one that a baby can fold into its mouth.
