My little one has been going through sleep training for the past 8-10 weeks and we are making extremely slow progress away from parent dependent - she often wakes through the night every 45 minutes. She is just turning 6 months and has started commando crawling and is quite strong. I recently bought a Lula Doll and hang on the outside of her cot and I find she is reaching for her a comfort when she can’t hold onto me. Articles advise comfort toys should not be used inside the cot before 7 months due to developmental reasons but what are these and could it be possible that an “advanced” 6 month old may already have developed these? We also recently transferred from a bassinet as she is very much on the move during the night.
Red Nose Education
Babies are at greater risk of SUDI (Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy including SIDS & Fatal Sleeping accidents) in the first 6 months of life. This is referred to as the Critical Development Period when looking at reducing risks to baby during their sleep time.

The preference for soft toys/comforters in the cot is to not use until after 12 mths.
However, parents are encouraged to weight up the advantages & risks when introducing a soft toy, comforter for baby.

Hopefully she will start sleeping for longer periods, but remember that many babies do not sleep through the night regularly till toddler age….....or older.
