Katelyn

Our 9 month old has just started at a new daycare. They have told us their policy is “no sleep sacks” and that they are following the red nose Australia guidelines? Their policy states “ Sleeping bags are to be used for babies sleeping in a cot only and are not yet rolling over, after children have reached this milestone sleep bags will not be used.” Am I missing something? I cannot see this advice anywhere on your website. Our baby has a very strong sleep association with his sleep sack, he has slept in it for every sleep his whole life. So I am not keen to get rid of it for no good reason. His sleep sack is well fitted across the neck and chest with no hood and his arms are out - these are the only guidelines I can find RE sleep sacks on your website! Please help!

Red Nose Education

You are correct with your information about sleeping bags (sacks) being well-fitted around neck & arm holes & no hood.

In the Cot to Bed information (under Alerts!) the following is stated:
If a child is wearing a baby sleeping bag whilst sleeping outside of a cot be careful!
A child wearing a baby sleeping bag and not confined to a cot is at a higher risk of falling and being injured.
The child must be actively super vised and the sleeping bag removed as soon as the child wakes.

I’m not sure where the daycare got this information from. I think it is a bit mixed up with the use of swaddling/wrapping or swaddle suits (arms in).
If baby is showing signs of rolling, then swaddling, wrapping needs to be ceased.
