Anne
Our baby is seven weeks and will grow out of her bassinet soon. We have a cot for her, but can only get it into our bedroom alongside our curtains. The curtains are floor to ceiling and have no cords. I don't feel ready to move her to the nursery yet and want to keep her in our room for the recommended six to twelve months. Is there a suffocation risk around the placement of cots near curtains? I could see an issue in the future with her using them to climb out of the cot.
Red Nose Education
Red Nose does advise against placing a cot near blinds or cords due to risk of strangulation. Once baby is able to move around cot & pull herself up, there may be a risk of her pulling curtains & covering her face.
Keep baby’s cot away from hanging cords such as blinds, curtains, or electrical appliances as they could get caught around baby’s neck.

As far as room sharing is concerned, Red Nose has the following information.
Parents are not expected to observe baby constantly. If baby is sleeping in a separate room check baby regularly to ensure that the baby remains on the back and the head and face remain uncovered
