Pram bassinets. My baby is 3 months old and rolling from tummy to back. Do the recommendations regarding bassinets and babies rolling also apply to pram bassinets? Should you transition to a pram seat instead of pram bassinet when baby can start to roll?
Red Nose Education
Once baby is rolling, swaddling/wrapping needs to be ceased & baby needs to be transferred to a cot for sleep.
Babies need their arms free & the space of a cot to roll well.
Most babies will be rolling over by 4- 5 months. Some earlier, some later.
This is very normal as babies grow & become stronger.
Many babies then prefer to sleep on their side or tummy.
This is not something that needs to be stopped. It is important to make the “new” environment as safe as possible.

How does your baby go with tummy time when awake?
Are you using a pram bassinet for sleeps?
Prams do not carry safety standards for sleep, especially when unsupervised (eg overnight)

Product Safety Australia develop & monitor all safety standards in Australia. Prams carry Mandatory Standards for transport safety. (AZ/NZS:2088)

New Mandatory Standards for bassinets have been developed & will come in effect from Jan 2026.
Meanwhile Product Safety have developed guidelines (buying tips) for bassinets which will form the basis for the new Mandatory Standards.
