Cristina

So I bought a bunch of stuff and now I’m unsure whether it’s safe or not. Are bedsheets ok if they are tucked in or is it better to just get a sleeping bag. Is any type of blanket a no go or is it just weighted blankets that are bad? I also got a canopy for the Stokke sleepi mini cot but now I’m thinking it might not be safe? I’m very confused, if you could shed some light. Thank you

Red Nose Education

Red Nose recommendations include “keep baby’s head & face uncovered”
When using any type of bedding it is important that baby’s head & face remain uncovered - so any sheets or light weight blankets should be tuck in firmly to prevent them becoming loose & covering head/face.
You are correct weighted blankets should be avoided.
Sleeping bags can be used as long as they fir appropriately (especially around the neck)

Ensure your cot meets mandatory Australian Standards (AS/NZS:2172)
Canopies are not recommended, as they may be a risk of baby pulling netting over head/face in some circumstances.
