Tara

We live in a cold area and cold house. My son is 1 and his room with a oil heater is only getting to about 12 degrees of a night time. He sleeps with a longe sleeve singlet, long sleeve and long pant jumpsuit and a 3.5 tog sleep suit. It’s not even winter yet and I think he is cold Any suggestions? At what age can I introduce a blanket/doona Also is it safe to put a sheepskin underneath a fitted sheet? Thanks

Has his sleeping changed? What is it that makes you think he is cold?
Don’t rely on how cold his face/hands/feet feel. They can often feel cold.
Check his back or tummy, if that feels snuggly warm then he is warm enough.
Babies will often wake more frequently if they are cold.

While ever he is in a cot, we suggest you follow the recommendations even tho’ he is 1yo.
A firm. well-fitting & flat mattress is still important.
Sometimes a loose doona can easily cover’s babies head/face.
If he is not rolling all around the cot when sleeping, you could try using a blanket, tucked in firmly up to chest.
This ensures baby’s head/face does not become covered.
If he is rolling around, then a blanket probably is not effective as he will get out from underneath it.
You can also add another layer of clothing if he is cold, but be careful of overheating.
