Red Nose’s Healing Through Community initiative, funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care, is dedicated to ensuring that every family—regardless of background—has access to culturally safe, compassionate, and practical bereavement support following pregnancy loss or stillbirth.
Co-Designed Support for Every Family
Recognizing that no two losses are the same, Red Nose has collaborated with bereaved families, community members, and clinical staff to co-design support services that are:
- Culturally Safe: Tailored to meet the diverse needs of First Nations families, CALD and migrant communities, refugees, young mothers, and those in rural and remote areas.
- Compassionate: Providing emotional and practical support from the moment concerns arise during pregnancy or birth, not just after discharge.
- Accessible: Breaking down barriers to ensure timely and effective support is available to all families.
Training for Health Professionals
A key component of this initiative is a 7-part video series, endorsed by RANZCOG, aimed at equipping health professionals with the tools to support grieving families. The series covers:
- Preparing for Difficult Conversations
- Supporting Young Mums
- Supporting Rural and Remote Families
- Supporting First Nations Families and Communities
- Supporting Refugee, Migrant, and CALD Communities
- Self-Care for Health Professionals
- Handover for Continuity of Bereavement Support
These resources empower clinicians to engage in compassionate conversations and guide families toward appropriate support.
