Commitment to Child Safety

Commitment to Child Safety Statement

Red Nose is a child safe organisation where we aim to keep children safe, and to ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and rights of every child who engages with our organisation. We believe that all children have the right to grow up in environments that are safe, supportive, and nurturing.

We are dedicated to providing child-safe environments where children and young people are respected, valued, and protected from harm. We recognise that child safety is a collective responsibility and requires proactive strategies to prevent abuse, respond effectively to concerns, and promote a culture where children’s voices are heard and acted upon. In line with our values, we commit to:

Embedding Child Safety in Organisational Culture

We will foster a child-safe culture across all levels of our organisation by:

  • Demonstrating strong leadership and governance that prioritises child safety.
  • Implementing clear policies, procedures, and practices to prevent and respond to child harm.
  • Promoting respectful relationships and behaviours among staff, volunteers, children, and families.

Empowering Children and Upholding Their Rights

We support the right of every child to express their views and participate in decisions affecting them. We will:

  • Create inclusive and accessible spaces for children and young people to share their ideas, concerns, and feedback.
  • Actively listen to and involve children in the design and evaluation of our services.
  • Respect the diverse needs, identities, and cultural backgrounds of all children.

Preventing Child Abuse and Harm

We are committed to proactive prevention strategies and robust risk management. This includes:

  • Thorough screening, supervision, and training of all staff and volunteers.
  • Identifying and managing risks of harm to children in physical and online environments.
  • Maintaining clear reporting and complaint-handling processes to respond swiftly and appropriately to concerns.

Ensuring Equity and Inclusivity

We acknowledge the increased vulnerabilities of children from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, children with disability, and those identifying as LGBTQIA+. We will:

  • Actively promote equity and inclusion in all aspects of our work.
  • Ensure our staff and volunteers are trained in culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Develop targeted strategies to meet the specific needs of diverse children and families.

Continuous Improvement and Accountability

We are committed to continuous review and improvement of our child safety practices. This includes:

  • Regularly reviewing our policies, risk assessments, and procedures.
  • Seeking and responding to feedback from children, families, and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring transparent reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of our child safety efforts.

We understand that child safety is an ongoing responsibility, and we will continue to build a culture of awareness, respect, and accountability. At Red Nose we will always strive to protect and promote these rights in everything we do.

“I found meeting people in real life who were going through a similar journey helped me greatly. It was so healing to be able to support one another, listen to and share our experiences without judgement or anyone feeling uncomfortable. Without a doubt the peer support I received through Red Nose immensely helped me mentally and emotionally during the times that I needed it the most”
