Go to sleep on your side after 28 weeks

Research shows that going to sleep on your side after 28 weeks of pregnancy can halve the risk of stillbirth compared to sleeping on your back.

Sleep on your side after 28 weeks

Why does sleeping on your side matter? After 28 weeks, going to sleep on your back compresses major blood vessels and reduces the supply of blood to your womb, and oxygen to your baby.

So switch to going to sleep on your side – left or right, it doesn’t matter. Whichever you find more comfortable. This applies equally for naps during the day as well as sleeping at night.

It’s normal to change position during sleep and many pregnant women wake up on their back. Don’t worry if this happens to you. Just start on your side when you go back to sleep again.
