Louise

Hello, My name is Louise and I am a mother to 2 and now a grandmother to Hugo (15 months) and Fallon (2 months) . Their parents follow the recommended sleep procedures, and I am curious to know whether these adjustments have reduced the rates of SIDS in babies….? Regards Louise

Red Nose Education

Since the safe sleeping recommendations were first introduced in 1990’s there has been a huge reduction in infant death.
The latest data available from Australian Bureau of Statistics on births & SUDI:

From 1989 to 2018, the rate of SUDI deaths in Australia has decreased by 85% – equating to 10,857 babies saved since risk reduction campaigns were introduced.

The current recommendations are certainly different to what those of us who are grandparents followed when we were raising our children.
Red Nose has some information specifically for grandparents.
