Red Nose Education

Safe Sleeping recommendations are recognised worldwide in reducing the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI)
SUDI is the death of a baby less than 12 months of age & includes SIDS (unexplained) & fatal sleeping accidents.
Since the introduction of the recommendations in late 1980’s, there has been an 85% reduction in SUDI in Australia. This equates to over 11,000 babies’ lives being saved.

Safe Sleeping Recommendations:
1. Place baby for sleep baby on the back from birth, not on the tummy or side

2. Sleep baby with head and face uncovered

3. Keep baby smoke free before birth and after

4. Provide a safe sleeping environment night and day

5. Sleep baby in their own safe sleeping place in the same room as an adult care-giver for the first six to twelve months

6. Breastfeed baby

How old is your baby?
Are there any specific areas of safe sleeping recommendations that you are concerned about?
If you have specific areas you want to know more about &/or research, I am happy to provide that for you.
