Rhiannon

I have just seen a family, where the baby is sleeping in a Chibebe. Is this a safe form of sleep, from the point of view of SIDS,SUDI prevention?

Red Nose Education

Red Nose recommends that the safest place for aby to sleep is in a cot that meets the Mandatory Australian Standards on a firm, clean, well-fitting & flat (not elevated) mattress.
On looking at phots of this product, it certainly does not appear to be a firm or flat surface for baby to sleep.

Red Nose has the following information
It may have been suggested by family and friends that you sleep baby on a beanbag. However, it is not safe to do so.

Product Safety Australia also provides this information.
WARNING: Children can suffocate if bean bag filling is swallowed or inhaled. Do not let children climb inside this bean bag.
A bean bag is not a safe sleeping surface for an infant under 12 months of age.
