I’m just wondering with the new bonds wondercool suits what is the suggested way to use it is it just the same as any other outfit if using a tog rating sleeping bag?
Red Nose Education
Hi there,
Thank you for your question!
Red Nose and Bonds developed Wondercool baby clothes (Wondersuit, Wonderbundle, Singletsuit, Bodysuit and Long Sleeve Bodysuit to help keep babies comfortable and give parents peace of mind knowing that their babies were dressed well for Australia’s changing weather conditions.
The Wondersuits and Bodysuits can be worn in the same way that any other suits can with the additional layer of a safe sleeping bag that is TOG selected for the temperature of the room.
Currently the Wonderbundle item is not TOG rated.
When trying to decide how to dress your baby for safer sleep, remember to dress your baby as you would dress yourself for the temperature of the room – comfortably warm, not too hot, not too cold.
In warmer weather, you can dress baby in a sleeveless and legless onesie, or just a nappy and singlet. For cooler weather, a full suit will keep baby warm.
If you are using a sleeping bag, select the TOG that matches the temperature of the room. If you are unsure of how to make this selection, use the manufacturer’s guide, which usually comes with the packaging, to select the right TOG and underclothes. Also make sure your sleeping bag is safe – it should be fitted around the neck, and baby’s arms fully out of the bag.
Red Nose Australia recommends that parents ensure baby’s face and head remain uncovered during sleep time to ensure babies can maintain a safe temperature and reduce the risks of SIDS. Thermal stress (overheating) has been implicated in SIDS and SUDI for many years and avoiding overheating has been one of the strategies to reduce the risk. Babies manage heat loss very efficiently when placed on the back to sleep with the head uncovered.
