Kacey

Two questions Is it safe for newborns to sleep on your chest as long as I am awake and watching them? The newborn scrunch makes me baby “roll” partially to one side in her bassinet. Is this okay?

Red Nose Education

1.
Red Nose recommends that the safest position for baby to be placed for sleep is on their back.
If you are awake & reclining, there is a risk of adult going to sleep, but it also means that baby is, in effect, sleeping on their tummy.
There are risks with this practice - especially if there is no-one with you that can ensure you don’t go to sleep as well.

2.
How old is your baby?
How does your baby go with tummy time when awake?
Are you swaddling/wrapping your baby?

Some babies do not respond well to wrapping as they like to touch their face or suck on fingers.
In an effort to “get out of the wrap” these babies will sometimes wriggle & end up on their side.
Sometimes wrapping/ swaddling your baby with arms out can be helpful.

Please let me know your responses to my questions so I can answer you more specifically.
