Hello, I live in Sydney and in summer the nights are hot and humid! I rent. Is it necessary for me to buy a portable aircon for my bedroom to keep the temp down for the baby? or is a fan sufficient enough? I am trying to figure out the layout of my bedroom and if I also need to fit a nursing chair in it if an aircon is a must? if a fan is the way to go, then I can put the nursing chair in the nursery and feed in there and have a fan going whilst in there during the feed. some google sites say 'yes definitely an aircon' to keep the temp down and others say 'aircon not needed'. Does the room temp have to be at a certain temp? I want to do the best and keep the baby safe. Thank you very much Nicole

Hello, My husband and I are about to bring a baby into the world during the middle of a Melbourne winter. We have never used heating ourselves, and just always seriously rug up in woolly clothing and lots of warm doonas on the bed etc. However we know that the same principle doesn't apply to babies, as soft bedding and many warm blankets can be dangerous. Our house is not well insulated at all, so if it is 1 degree outside it will be only slightly warmer inside. Therefore would you recommend that we purchase a heater, and use it at a distance from the cot to keep our baby warm enough? Or would it be better to not use heating, but some kind of very warm sleep bag for the baby, with a heavy TOG, and perhaps also a light blanket during mid winter with their head and arms exposed? We have wood heating (closed fire box) in our living room. Whenever we throw a new log on a little bit of smoke enters the room which we can smell. After a minute or two, the smoke abates. Our new baby is often in the room at this time but at least 5 metres away from the source. At night, our baby is sleeping with us in the bedroom with no smoke at all. Does this present a risk from a SIDS perspective? The exposure would be very low (if at all) and we only burn the cleanest wood.

Hi There, My bub is 3.5months old. He is now too small for the bassinet. Hits the sides and head is starting to touch the top.. I am not comfortable putting him in his cot yet as it's in another room and does not fit in ours.. Is it suitable for bub to sleep nights in a portacot or is this not a suitable long term soloution? Thank you

My 6 week old is able to roll onto her side enabling her to roll up to the edge of the bassinet. What recommendations do you have to aid safe positioning and safe sleep at this early age?

Hi, my baby is due in winter. I read that you recommend that babies arms be out of sleeping bags or if swaddling to use a light material such as cotton or Muslim. How can I keep my newborn warm enough at night in a house where we do not have access to heating if I am recommended to use light weight materials for swaddling? Thank you

Hi, my baby boy turns 4 months next week and he has started rolling onto his side during his sleep, and has now started to roll onto his belly. His head is turned out so he can breath. Is it safe to let him sleep in this position if he puts himself there or do i need to roll him back into his back. He can only roll from back to front at this stage and During the night and day naps he sleeps in his own cot in a separate room as we dont have space to put his cot in our room, which is only about 1.5/2m away from our room.

Just wondering if cot bumpers, to stop dummys falling out the side of the cot are a sids risk or not? is there a difference between mesh and non mesh. bbay is almost 11months old
