We are going on an international holiday where we will be using a portacot in the same room as us (provided by the hotels). Our (then) 9 month old is very sensitive to location changes with sleep. As we will be moving every 2-3 days we thought a cover for the cot (used before we go), would help create a familiar environment. Are any covers safe? We are looking at 2 that their website say are tested for safety (but it’s hard to know if it is independent). Two options are: - slumberpod 3.0 : https://www.babyzone.com.au/products/slumberpod-3-0baby-privacy-pod? - snooze shade : https://snoozeshade.com.au/collections/portacot/products/snoozeshade-for-cots

Red Nose Education

Do the portacots being provided by the hotel meet Mandatory Safety Standards (ideally Australian standards)
What countries are you travelling to?
As the cots provided by the hotels will have been used previously, check that there is no damage to the cot & that the locking mechanism is in good condition.

Check also weight limit for the specific portable - most portable cots have a weight limit of 15kg, however some vary from that.

Red Nose has no information about any safety standards for these products.
Red Nose does not recommend the use of covers over the cot in order to block out all light.
It is important to be able to see baby easily when they are sleeping.
Some things to consider before use.
Are you able to see your baby?
Is there plenty of air flow/ventilation?
Is your baby able to pull up on the sides of the cot (or furniture)?

Check if the covers have a standard size that matches the size of the portacot, & that it is fitted as per instructions, if you intend using this product.
