What can I do to sleep my baby safely?

Hi, I am trying to find information of having scent diffusers in the sleep environment. Would this create a risk (excluding hanging cords) or is it safe to implement? Thanks

Hello, My baby just turned 4 months old and has mastered rolling from her back to her belly with ease and she has good neck control. She is currently unable to roll from belly to back. Since developing this skill, she is constantly rolling onto either her side or stomach to sleep. My partner and I are barely getting any sleep as one of us always stays awake to watch her and roll her back onto her back as needed. We are so stressed and exhausted. I've read your article about rolling and note it states: 'Once baby can roll confidently from front to back, and from back to front, continue to settle them on their back, but allow them to find their own natural sleeping position. Once baby is able to roll in both directions, it is not necessary to wake during the night to turn baby over to the back position. It can be very nerve racking once baby is starting to roll! If baby can roll in both directions unaided – that is they are able to roll onto their side/front and then back onto their back themselves, then it is ok to put baby to sleep on their back and let them find their own natural sleeping position. If baby can only roll unaided in one direction, then you should gently roll them back on to their back whenever you see they have rolled onto their front or side.' From this advice, given the fact that my baby can only roll unaided in 1 direction, staying awake appears to be our only option. Otherwise we will go 4-6 hours without waking between feeds and her sleeping position will be unknown. Is there any thing else we can do to ensure safe sleep for our little one while we also get some shut eye? Her cot environment follows all safe sleep guidelines. Thank you

My almost 5 month old seems to want to sleep on his side. He is always put down on his back but will roll onto his side to sleep during the night, he is mostly on his stomach with his head to the side. I constantly check him through the night and roll him back but is there anything I should be doing to ensure his safety? It seems to be the main position that he self settles in but it makes me worry.

Hi! We are going on a family holiday next month and are staying in a hotel that has specified that they will provide a cot for my daughter who will be 13 months. I’ve been thinking about the sleeping arrangements and I have a couple of questions. Are there rules about how often Australian hotels have to replace cot mattresses for safety (so that they are not overly soft etc)? Also, at what age does bed sharing become safe? For example if she is struggling to sleep in the new environment (she’s never slept in a cot that isn’t her own) is it safe to bring her into the bed with us? Thanks!

Hello, I am expecting a baby soon and am feeling very confused about sleep recommendations. Do Red Nose not approve sleeping in bassinets at all? If so I'm considering putting my newborn in our room in a cot but am confused about mattress thickness with this as I can't find a max 7.5cm thick mattress as seems to be recommended on the Red Nose website. The Koala cot and mattress have been recommended on the website however the thickness is 12.5cm so I'm even more confused. Thank you so much, Zoe

My daughter is 35 weeks pregnant with her first child. I smoke in my own home but not hers. She has asked that I give her a set of clothes to keep at her place that she can wash to get the smoke out of my clothes and that when I visit I change into these clothes, and brush my teeth and wash my hands so residual smoke on my clothes and breath does not increase the risk of sids to her baby. She has also said she wont visit me at my home for 12 months, when she believes the risk of sids will be decreased. I would never smoke if the baby was in my home. Is there any evidence of a person visiting who smokes in their own home and an increased risk of sids. thank you

My 7 month old has now learnt how to sit by themselves and has made one successful attempt at standing on their own by holding onto the couch. I know his cot mattress height is meant to be lowered when babies are older but I can’t find any information on when it should be done and the safety issues with this. Thanks.

Hi, I hope you’re well. We have a 6 month old son. We live on the Gold Coast and currently we are experiencing extreme heat waves with temperatures up to 36-38 degrees. Our son’s room is sitting at 28 degrees plus. We only have a ceiling fan, dressing him in a 0.2 tog and a light bonds singlet. Is this ok? I’m extremely stressed about him as he runs hot generally and hates the heat. Thank you

Hello, I know it’s best for baby to sleep in bassinet in the same room for at least 6 months. My baby is 3 months and can already roll. It seems that the bassinet is now too small for him and he wakes up a lot due to not having room. Would you recommend we just keep him in the bassinet or move him to his room with his cot? Thanks

My little boy is just over 3 months. He has worked out how to roll back to tummy and is determined to sleep on his tummy. He has not mastered rolling from tummy to back. We try to roll him back for sleep but he immediately rolls back even when asleep. He can hold his head up etc. How worried should we be about him sleeping on his tummy? Thanks!

Hello, 1. My son was a breech baby and has preferred rolling / sleeping on his left side since birth. He won’t seem to stay on his back for more than a minute or two without rolling. He is currently 7 weeks old and we still have him in a sleep sack with arms in. Should he be sleeping with his arms out given that he sleeps on his side? 2. I see that it is recommended that baby’s room share with their parents until at least 6 months of age but that they should transition to a cot (from a bassinet) once baby starts rolling. Our bun is currently in a co-sleeper and his cot won’t fit in our room. Once he starts rolling, should he be moved into his own room and into his cot? Or kept in his co-sleeper in our room?

When travelling with baby I know you need to take a break after 2 hours and get Bub out. How long of a rest should you take before continuing the drive if the trip is longer than 2 hours?
