I was told that it's safest to sleep a toddler in a sleeping bag until two years - is this true? My daughter is 18 months and can now sometimes pop the buttons on her grobags, and also she puts her arms inside the bag to sleep (via the arm holes) and regularly ends up with them stuck out the neck or both out one arm hole. She also curls into a ball so her face is covered with the bag or between it and the mattress. I can't stop her from doing any of these things, the bag is the correct size, in fact she'll soon out grow it. Is a sleeping bag still the best option? When is it safe to move to normal sheets and blankets?
Can I buy a cot mattress that is 75mm thick, when the cot manufacturer recommends 100-150mm? I've read other information that recommends a mattress be a minimum of 100mm thick to avoid the mattress becoming too thin - yet the mybub mattresses available on the Red Nose shop are 75mm. A little confused. Thanks
Hi, My first baby is due this November. My Mum has kept the Moses basket she used for me to use for my little one but it requires a new liner. I haven't been able to find any safety recommendations on the use of a liner or even if it is to be used at all. Any safety recommendations at all would be fantastic.
Hi there, my first baby is due in July and I'm so confused about about how to dress/wrap the baby when sleeping. A member of my family has personally been affected by SIDS so it's something that is very important to me. What clothes do you recommend dressing the baby in to sleep? (like a Bonds Wondersuit or something similar?) Do I wrap the baby in a muslin wrap then have blankets as well? Or would a sleep bag be better? Do you use blankets with sleep bags? What sleep bags do you recommend for winter?
Is it ok to use a thin cotton towel as a mattress protector in a bassinet, underneath a fitted sheet? If yes, does the towel need to completely tuck in around all sides of the mattress, or is it ok to use a towel that tucks in on both long sides but isn't quite long enough to tuck in at top and bottom of mattress?
My son's cot has a 2cm gap each side of the mattress (between the mattress and frame). I undersand this meets the minimum safety requirements but it seems quite large to me and I am nervous that as he is an active sleeper his hand could become trapped. I also have to make sure each sleep that it is exactly centred or the gap will be larger. Someone has told me to place a rolled up towel in the gap but I don't think that would be recommended as a safe option. What is recommended in this situation?
