Red Nose recommends that babies are placed to sleep on their back on a firm, flat surface
that is not inclined.
Why should I not use an inclined sleep product?
- Some parents think that sleeping their baby in an inclined position helps settle the baby and can ease reflux. There is little evidence that this is true.
- Sleeping baby on an inclined surface encourages baby’s head to fall forward. This can lead to their airway being blocked.
- If baby were to roll on an inclined surface they suffocate against the soft base or the padded side.
- Products with harnesses increase the risk of entrapment and strangulation and should only be used whilst watching your baby. They should not be used for sleep.
- There is a risk baby will fall from an inclined sleep product.
- Sleep baby on a surface that is firm, flat and not inclined.
