All portable (porta-cots) cots sold in Australia must meet the mandatory Australian Standard AS/NZS 2195.
Important points to remember when using a portable cot:
- When assembling the portable cot, follow the instructions.
- The instructions are there to help keep baby safe from sleeping accidents.
- Use only the mattress that was supplied with the portable cot.
- Do not add another mattress or any padding.
- Never place baby in a cot that is not known to meet the Australian standard.
- Look for a label or paperwork that states the cot complies with the standard.
- Only use a portable cot that has no tears in the mesh or broken parts.
- Ensure that the base is flat
- Regularly check the cot for signs of damage.
- Do not use bedding that has exposed elastic that may strangle baby.
- Do not use a portable cot if baby weighs more than 15kg or the weight limit specified in the instructions for the cot.
