What is SIDS?

SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

When a child dies unexpectedly during sleep in their first year of life, a coroner is asked to find out why the baby died. If, after a thorough investigation, they cannot find the cause of death, the death is classified as SIDS.

SIDS simply means that there is no known cause for the death.

If you or someone you know has been impacted by the death of a child, our bereavement support services can help. Call 1300 308 307 or visit rednosegriendandloss.com.au for more information.

“I found meeting people in real life who were going through a similar journey helped me greatly. It was so healing to be able to support one another, listen to and share our experiences without judgement or anyone feeling uncomfortable. Without a doubt the peer support I received through Red Nose immensely helped me mentally and emotionally during the times that I needed it the most”
