A safe pram or stroller meets the Australian standard for prams and strollers (AS/NZS 2088:2000)
Important points to remember when using a pram or stroller:
- All prams and strollers must meet the safety standard to be sold in Australia.
- If you are planning to use a second-hand pram or stroller, check it meets the standard.
- When preparing to use a pram or stroller, read the instructions carefully to help keep baby safe.
- Always fasten restraints when your baby is in a pram or stroller. It can be dangerous if your baby becomes tangled in loose or incorrectly fastened restraints.
- Make sure the footrest on the stroller is strong and secure.
- Ensure the brakes are used when your pram is stopped. Several children in Australia have died after a pram or stroller has rolled away from parents.
- Never leave your baby unattended in a pram or stroller.
- It is not a substitute for a cot.
